| It's going to be quite the week... |
Actually, a handful of words.
There have been a few isolated moments over the past couple years where I have thought about second guessing my decision to pursue my passion for composition. When I have a difficult day and my mind starts to dwell on the relative uncertainty of my future—and the time and resources I have invested in studying music so far. While on most days I am much more optimistic, I worry sometimes that this musical endeavor of mine will ultimately fall through. (The details of these internal monologues are best left for another post.)
But then there are the moments like last night, when I have the honor and privilege of hearing one of my pieces premiered. Hearing Capitol Winds perform The Lady, or the Tiger? last night was both a humbling and exhilarating experience. On days like yesterday, I know that whatever happens in the future, I have made a sound choice by working at something I have come to love so much. However, elaborating on this must also be saved for later.
For the end of the semester is fast approaching, and I have many a project to complete. Rest assured that in the weeks that will follow the coming days' craziness, I will spend time updating my blog with posts all about the aforementioned highs and lows of being a composer, and about everything I am currently working on (that had better be finished soon!). In particular, I would like to expound upon how much last night's concert meant to me and why.
So, assuming that the sun rises once again on December 22, 2012, and on the days that follow, I will be back with more before too long.
